    Banyan Global is recruiting for a Gender Team Lead Consultant to carry out a women’s economic empowerment and equality (WE3) analysis in the waste management and recycling sector for USAID. The geographic scope will be global and will also include a specific focus on Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).  The following five countries in LAC are a priority:
    Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Peru.


    The Gender Team Lead Consultant will work with a Waste Management and Recycling Expert Consultant to carry out a desk review and will travel to Honduras for approximately 1 week to conduct the field work for the Gender Assessment. The consultant, in collaboration with the Waste Management and Recycling Expert Consultant, will prepare the draft and final Gender Assessment Reports as well as a fact sheet on gender and waste recycling.
    The consultant will collaborate with USAID staff and partners, local academia, government institutions, private sector and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to gather data for the Gender Assessment.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage and engage the Waste Management and Recycling Sector expert in all responsibilities
    • Lead the preparation of an inception report which will include:
    • Detailed Methodology including, but not limited to, key roles and responsibilities of team members, secondary data to be used in desk review in line with WE3 and ADS domains, selection and profiles of key informants and instruments to be used for primary data collection, process to present preliminary findings and any databases needed for statistical analysis,
    • Work plan including, but not limited to, a detailed schedule of desk review activities; development of question guide and structure; key informant/expert interviews and fieldwork; data processing and analysis; drafting of final report; and other relevant information regarding the assessment.

    • Lead the global, LAC regional and country specific desk review
    • Lead the process of drafting all data collection instruments
    • Lead the development and finalization of the key stakeholder list and conduct relevant remote and in-person interviews
    • Travel to Honduras for approximately 1 week to conduct the Gender Assessment, which will include carrying out key informant interviews and focus groups with USAID and partner staff, government, private sector, and NGO/civil society stakeholders
    • Present the preliminary findings of the Gender Analysis and Assessment to USAID before the end of the field visit
    • Lead the drafting of the final Gender Assessment report; revise the draft based on USAID and Banyan Global feedback; and submit the Final Gender Assessment Report to Banyan Global
    • Create a gender and waste recycling fact sheet

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in gender/women’s studies, international relations/development, environmental sciences, business, economics, or related field
    • At least ten years of experience in carrying out gender analysis and assessments, with a focus on all or some of the following sectors: municipal waste management and recycling; green economy; oceans and seas; or economic growth and trade
    • Familiarity with the USAID policies, procedures, and project cycle
    • Familiarity with public policies, strategies and legal frameworks addressing gender and social inclusion gaps in Latin America and the Caribbean
    • Ability to communicate diplomatically and clearly with USAID staff and partners
    • Experience with the drafting and implementation of qualitative research instruments
    • Experience with working with diverse staff
    • Superior oral and written command of English, including the ability to draft and organize complex documents drawing from a wide range of existing resources. Spanish highly desired
