Overview

Banyan Global is a women-owned and managed international development consulting firm based in Washington, DC, with staff working in countries across the world. Banyan Global operates within six practice areas: health, finance and investment, enterprise development, gender, youth, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.

 

Banyan Global is currently carrying out multiple COVID-specific gender analyses (CSGA) under the Gender Integration Technical Assistance (GITA) II Task Order for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The remote analyses focus on ensuring that different USAID projects addressing the risks of COVID-19 appropriately integrate gender equality and women’s empowerment and also avoid doing harm.

 

Banyan Global is seeking qualified mid- and senior-level gender and GBV experts (in particular with fluency in French and Spanish) to carry out the CSGAs. All assignments will be conducted remotely, and no travel will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a multi-sectoral project-level CSGA over a 3.5-week period (requires full-time availability during that period). Projects may focus on one or more of the following sectors:
    • Agriculture, food security, and nutrition
    • Democracy, rights, and governance
    • Economic growth
    • Education
    • Environment and natural resources management and use
    • Health (including the dissemination of public health information through multiple channels)
    • Water, sanitation, and hygiene
  • Collaborate with one or more national consultant to conduct secondary data collection and limited primary data collection.
  • Conduct a literature review of country- and sector-level reports prepared by other national and international organizations on the impacts of COVID-19 on gender equality and a review of key USAID activity documents and sector specific data sets.
  • Coordinate with multiple stakeholders to set up key informant interviews within a rapid timeline.
  • Prepare a 20-35 page CSGA report and PowerPoint presentation based on the CSGA report.
  • Design and participate in a CSGA report validation workshop with USAID mission and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all deliverables are submitted within deadlines to both Banyan Global and the USAID mission.

Qualifications

  • At least seven years of experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment in international development.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Full professional fluency and excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English (required). Fluency in French or Spanish highly preferred.
  • Expertise in one of the following areas:
    • Agriculture, food security, and nutrition
    • Democracy, rights, and governance
    • Economic growth
    • Education
    • Environment and natural resources management and use
    • Gender-based prevention, mitigation, and response
    • Health, including the dissemination of public health information through multiple channels
    • Water, sanitation, and hygiene
  • Experience carrying gender analyses/assessments.
  • Experience carrying out secondary and remote primary data collection.
  • A high level of familiarity with USAID and its program cycle.
  • Excellent diplomatic and team management skills.
  • Adept at embracing change and adapting quickly to meet client needs and new challenges.
