Banyan Global is an international development consulting firm headquartered in Washington, DC with staff working in a number of developing countries. Banyan Global operates seamlessly within six practices areas: health, finance and investment, enterprise development, gender, youth, and evaluation and learning. Banyan Global is a consortium partner on the Jordan Economic Reform Activity (ERA) Task Order One (TO1) led by Chemonics. ERA TO1 is a 5-year, $54 million program funded by USAID, which aims to support the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to prioritize and implement economic reforms. Through coordination with the GOJ, the Jordanian and international private sector, other donors, and Jordanian civil society, ERA TO 1 will (1) advance economic reforms, (2) strengthen the business enabling environment, (3) increase exports and local, regional, and international investments, and (4) respond to emerging priorities.

OBJECTIVE

The individual selection for this position will analyze opportunities to increase exports for sectors with high inclusion of women, youth, and/or persons with disabilities. This assignment contributes directly to USAID ERA’s support to the Jordan National Export Strategy (NES) Action Plan. The objective of this assignment is two-fold:

First: To build on the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) priority sectors and conduct a gap analysis of sectors with high potential to employ and support inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

Second: After the priority sectors with inclusion potential are identified, increase the capacity of businesses in these sectors to engage in trade.

Main tasks of this assignment:

  • Through a consultative process, identify priority industries/economic sectors within NES that have more potential for employing women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
  • Hold a brief meeting with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply (MOITS) and convey the finding of the consultative process on the identified priority sectors that would employ more women, youth and persons with disabilities.
  • Identify opportunities and exporting gaps for the identified priority sectors and suggest ways to mitigate such gaps. The gap analysis will include legal barriers and other constraints to inclusion and how existing laws and regulations promote or inhibit the inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities:
