Banyan Global is currently seeking a Mid-Level Technical Expert Consultant to support a real-time evaluation of two environmental projects focused on blue carbon ecosystems and climate-smart livelihoods in Indonesia. The Enabling Blue Carbon in Indonesia and Nature-based Solutions for Climate-Smart Livelihoods in Mangrove Landscapes (NASCLIM) projects aim to strengthen Indonesia’s policy frameworks for blue carbon ecosystems and mangrove conservation, while enhancing coastal livelihoods. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, these projects are managed by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

 

Banyan Global will conduct a series of real-time evaluations of the two projects (1) Enabling Blue Carbon in Indonesia and (2) Nature-based Solution for Climate Smart Livelihood in Mangrove Landscapes (NASCLIM). It is envisaged that there will be four evaluative learning loops, conducted once a year between 2025 and 2028, with each learning loop spanning the two projects. These evaluations will be conducted annually over four years, providing actionable insights to improve project effectiveness and sustainability. Banyan Global is recruiting a Mid-Level Technical Expert to support data collection, stakeholder engagement, and analysis for these evaluations, ensuring that findings inform project adaptations and decision-making.The evaluation is based in Indonesia and requires field visits, with some remote components. The position is open to Indonesian candidates only, with an estimated Level of Effort of 20 days per year (2025-2028).

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and implementation of real-time evaluations for both projects.
  • Assist in refining key evaluation questions and developing data collection tools.
  • Conduct literature reviews and analyze project documentation.
  • Support field data collection in Indonesia through key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys.
  • Assist in facilitating in-person learning workshops with project stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the drafting of inception and final evaluation reports.
  • Ensure that evaluation findings incorporate gender equality and social inclusion considerations.
  • Serve as a local liaison to engage Indonesian government agencies, communities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Senior Evaluation Expert to ensure data triangulation and high-quality evaluation outputs.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Evaluation, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, or related fields.
  • Experience:
    • 5-10 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning, with a focus on climate resilience, sustainability, or natural resource management projects.
    • Experience conducting evaluations for international donor-funded projects (USAID, GGGI, Global Affairs Canada, or similar organizations).
    • Strong familiarity with Indonesia’s environmental and social policies, particularly in blue carbon, mangrove conservation, and climate change adaptation.
  • Skills:
    • Strong qualitative and quantitative data collection skills.
    • Excellent analytical and writing skills.
    • Ability to engage effectively with Indonesian stakeholders, including government representatives, donors, and local communities.
    • Experience in facilitating discussions and workshops.
  • Language Requirements:
    • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia required.
    • Professional proficiency in English required.
  • Other:
    • Must be based in Indonesia and available for on-site fieldwork and stakeholder consultations.
