Banyan Global is recruiting an Demand-Driven Vocational Education and Training (VET) & Employment Expert for an active solicitation that advances VET and employment promotion in Sub-Saharan Africa. This role focuses on designing and advising on demand- and opportunity-driven approaches for skills development by leveraging concrete employment opportunities as a starting point. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance on VET systems, facilitate effective coordination between public and private sectors, and contribute to reforms that enhance workforce development and entrepreneurial support in the region.

 

This position is open to qualified applicants that can work remotely with potential travel supporting efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa and Belgium and is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement opportunity-driven VET strategies that use concrete employment opportunities as the starting point for skills development.
  • Advise on and support reforms aimed at creating demand-driven VET and skills development initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Program Analysis and Design:

  • Analyze and integrate current trends and challenges in vocational training, centers of excellence, employment promotion, and entrepreneurship support to ensure programs are market-responsive.
  • Design strategies and tools to facilitate the coordination of VET governance and the effective engagement of both public and private sectors.

Technical Assistance and Collaboration:

  • Provide expert guidance and technical assistance to development partners, local institutions, and stakeholders in implementing VET reforms and employment initiatives.
  • Foster and support collaborations and partnerships among key actors in the VET ecosystem, including donor agencies and private sector entities.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Prepare clear, concise, and impactful strategies, reports, proposals, and other documentation that convey complex information effectively.
  • Serve as a technical lead in engaging with international donors and development agencies, ensuring alignment with Global Gateway and related initiatives.

Inclusion and Innovation:

  • Champion inclusive approaches in program design and implementation to promote equal opportunities for marginalized and vulnerable groups.
  • Leverage digital tools and educational technology platforms to enhance program delivery, monitoring, and evaluation.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years in a long-term role—or equivalent experience through multiple short-term assignments—in the field of opportunity-driven VET and employment promotion.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting reforms toward opportunity-driven VET and skills development in Sub-Saharan Africa, gained through long-term or multiple short-term missions
  • Proven experience in engaging with the private sector and promoting public-private partnerships to drive sustainable workforce development.
  • A track record of effectively preparing strategies, writing detailed reports, proposals, and other documentation for complex projects.
