Banyan Global is a member of the consortium currently implementing the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Reaching Every At-Risk Community and Household with Malaria Services (REACH Malaria) project. PMI REACH Malaria supports countries to accelerate the planning, delivery, and monitoring of life-saving facility and community-based malaria services and drug-based prevention activities with the overall goal of reducing malaria morbidity and mortality, through three objectives:

  1. Strengthened implementation of quality malaria service delivery with a focus on un-reached populations.
  2. Strengthened and more resilient health systems for malaria service delivery from national to community level.
  3. Effective global leadership in malaria service delivery approaches provided.

 

In Ethiopia, the PMI REACH Malaria project works with the Government of Ethiopia through the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) to support selected health facilities in Benishangul Gumuz, South Ethiopia, Southwest Ethiopia, and Oromia regions. Banyan Global will implement PMI REACH Malaria’s interventions with private clinics in those regions.

 

Banyan Global is recruiting for an experienced and skilled individual with expertise in the private health sector in Ethiopia and provision of malaria products and services to work on the PMI REACH Malaria project in Ethiopia. We are seeking a full-time Private Health Sector Advisor to be based in the project’s office in Addis Ababa.

Responsibilities

  • Work in close coordination with the project manager at Banyan Global home office as well as the project leadership based in Addis Ababa;
  • Ensure that malaria case management training and mentoring being provided by PMI REACH Malaria are adapted to the needs and contexts of private clinics;
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with relevant personnel in the MOH and RHBs, providing technical assistance on how to engage private health providers to expand and improve the quality of malaria product and service provision and to strengthen supervision of private clinics for malaria case management;
  • Execute other tasks as needed and appropriate.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Post-graduate degree in public health, health policy and planning, or other related field;
  • Direct relevant experience working with the MOH and RHBs as well as private health sector providers in Ethiopia;
  • Training or experience in malaria case management preferred;
  • Experience working on U.S. and other international projects, preferably in the health sector.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Writing and communications – Ability to write high-level reports under a tight deadline. Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in English;
  • Knowledge of one or more languages of Ethiopia preferred;
  • Systems thinking – Ability to understand, affect, connect, and leverage various parts of a system while maintaining sight of the whole system;
  • Flexibility – Ability to expect the unexpected and adjust to what the situation now requires, rather than what was planned.
